Activity Overview

This weekend activity will be for Adults (Leaders/ Trainee Leaders/ Adult Helpers/ Rovers ) and will be an opportunity to gain some experience in ScoutSkill Qualifications in the areas of:

SP Perform Water Rescues- required for aquatics, fishing, canyoning and paddling (Canoe/ Kayak/ SUP etc). Conducted at Oasis Swimming Centre (heated pool) *NOTE IAW Scouts NSW WACIR- "for unpatrolled areas  where Joeys, Cubs or Scouts are present, there must be TWO qualified leaders"

SP Paddling (not a craft specific qualification) Conducted at Lake Albert- participants will be required to get wet.

TP Canoeing Conducted at Lake Albert- participants will be required to get wet.

TP Bushwalking Tracked environments (required for some bushwalking activities) Activity Location is not advertised so prior planning and research can't be conducted, but will be undertaken on a Grade 3 Track, up to 10km in Length.

TP Core. Camping location Wagga Scout Hall.

Scouts NSW policies, proceedures and paperwork  requirements and Q and A Session.

More detailed information will be provided closer to the activity.

The aim of the weekend is to have participants complete the requirements for consideration for Qualifications. Keep in mind while suitable knowledge and experience is required to appropriately lead future activities, this weekend will require active participation. In addition there is a requirement to be able to provide appropriate documentation, this includes a logbook.  

Preparation

• Current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011) is required for TP Core
• Completion of Scouts Australia On Demand eLearning in Adventurous Activities is recommended
• Your Logbook with up to date evidence of your recent experience to be eligible for qualifications
• Scouting Adventure Completion (not essential but recommended, as only leaders with a certificate of proficiency can lead an activity, in accordance with the WACIR)

Clothing & Equipment

• Participants will be required to be self sufficient for all personal equipment for activity areas including 
• Water Rescues
• Canoeing (PFDs will be available if required)
• Overnight bushwalking/ lightweight camping
• All meals and cooking

Activity Cost

$70.00 for participants that do not hold TP Units for all activity areas. To be paid to Simon Smith or Direct Deposit to Tumut Scout Group (Deposit details can be provided by request).

Fee includes paddling equipment hire (canoes, paddles,pfds etc.), aquatic centre entry fee, Hall hire etc.

Travel Arrangements

• Private travel arranged before the activity. Activities will require travel to appropriate locations. Some car pooling may be undertaken as required and suitable for the weekend. Activity Locations may be up to a radius 15 of km from Wagga. 

Camp Facilities

Depending on Camping location, showers are not expected to be available. Toilets may be pit-toilets. 

Electronic Devices

Electronic devices are likely to be required. This may include Laptop PC's, iPads (for research and planning requirements). Phones are recommended for photos etc. Access to mains power outlet charging or connection should be available. Any printed copies of paperwork will be provided on request or as part of the activity plan.

Supervision

• This activity will be conducted under direct or indirect adult supervision. Both male and female leaders will be present. TBC
